This week’s posts are dedicated to summing up my experiences at All Write 2012.

Katie Wood Ray is also “on a crusade to reframe mentor texts”. She presented ideas to promote mentor authors and illustrators, not individual texts. Her ideas led me to think about being more intentional about how I introduce and discuss books. She promoted using multiple texts by the same author and sharing their photos and stories with the students. “Sweet!” I thought. “This is doable is fall!” I started making a list of the authors I would need to track down– Nicola Davies, Mo Willems, Steve Jenkins, Gail Gibbons, Michael Garland, Chris Van Dusen, Tomie dePaola, Jane Yolen, Angela Johnson, Kevin Henkes, Marla Frazee, Lois Lowery, Nic Bishop, and Melanie Watt should get me started. Katie also spoke of a fellow teacher who scans children’s work to add to the mentor text charts. Their work hangs alongside the work of those they emulated.
